Canon Announces New PIXMA Printer Models and CanonScan Scanner

Canon decided to update its PIXMA printer line with just four weeks to go before 2012 moves into the rear-view mirror. There are three new printers in all, including two wireless all-in-one models -- PIXMA MG6320 and MG5420 -- and a wireless photo printer -- iP7220 -- along with a new CanoScan 900F Mark II Photo Scanner that's capable of scanning up to 9600x9600 dots per inch (DPI) for film and up to 4800x4800 dpi for all other media.

The MG6320 and MG5420 are both compact printers with a new snap-edge design and low-height body to reduce the space needed to open the scanner. There's a new paper cassette that allows the printers to sit flush with the wall. The primary difference between the two is the number of ink tanks -- the MG6320 utilizes six of them, including gray, and the MG5420 features five. Both models boast edge-to-edge 4x6-inch photo printing in approximately 21 seconds at up to 9600x2400 dpi.
For those who don't need a scanning function, the iP7220 offers wireless photo printing capabilities with up to 15 images per minute in black and white and 10 ipm in color. It has a maximum color resolution of 9600x2400 dpi and a Quiet Mode.
Pricing breaks down as follows;
  • Canon PIXMA MG6320: $200
  • Canon PIXMA MG5420: $150
  • Canon PIXMA iP7220: $100
  • Canon CanoScan 900F Mark II: $200
